About the Centering Influence Survey

We Help Leaders Find Their Center

Based on the book America vs. the Overclass by Stephen B. Young, PhD, the Centering Influence Survey helps leaders examine the values, beliefs, and principles that shape how they lead — AND to what degree their decisions are influenced by external noise.

The Centering Influence™ Survey (CIS)

The Centering Influence™ Survey (CIS) is a proprietary psychometric tool designed to measure the degree to which an individual operates from an inner-directed versus other-directed orientation.

The survey helps leaders understand what truly drives them — are they making decisions from a grounded, responsible inner-directed source, or are they pulled by external influence, noise, and pressure.

The CIS is built on research in self-determination theory, identity development, and transformational leadership, drawing on the foundational distinction between inner-directed and other-directed character orientations. It is designed for use in individual coaching, team development, leadership training, and organizational culture work.

What the Results Provide

Each participant receives a comprehensive written interpretation that puts their scores in context and offers actionable guidance for growth. CIS offers a synthesized model measuring inner and other direction, along with five core elements — authentic, grounded, open, responsible, and healthy time perspective (experience based).
